9-Day Ol Pejeta, Nakuru, Masai Mara, Naivasha, Amboseli, Tsavo West, Mtito Andei

Duration

9 days

Overview

Start your journey in Central Kenya and enter Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the rhino population’s sanctuary. In addition to being the home of Kenya’s largest rhino population, Ol Pejeta is the only host habitat for chimpanzees and rescued or orphaned animals in East Africa. It is also home to two of the world’s last Northern White Rhinos.

A haven for birdwatchers, Lake Nakuru National Park is also home to white rhinos. Despite its modest size, the park is home to a variety of wildlife species, including the elusive leopard. More than 400-recorded bird species, including pelicans and flamingos, call Lake Nakuru home.

One of the highlights of your safari is the Masai Mara. The Masai Mara never lets you down with its breathtaking rolling landscapes, all five of the Big Five species, rich fauna, ecosystems, and an incredible cultural legacy. The majority of the world’s largest mammal species freely roam in the Mara, which also hosts the Wildebeest Migration, one of the most amazing animal spectacles.

Lake Naivasha, home to pods of hippos and a variety of bird species, is a freshwater lake on the Great Rift Valley. Other animals that call the lakeshores home include zebras and waterbucks. Situated in Lake Naivasha lies the Animal Sanctuary Farm and a stroll through the sanctuary farm and a boat ride on the lake will further enhance your safari.

Home to Four of the Big Five wildlife species, Amboseli, hosts a large population of the gentle giants of the wild, the African elephant. Big-tusked African elephants roam the park, providing visitors with an up-close look. Get a view of Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro; across the park’s open savannah grasslands.

Kenya’s second-largest protected area is Tsavo West. With acacia forests, scrubs, riverine vegetation, rocky ridges, and many other types of vegetation the Tsavo boasts of a diversified ecology. Tsavo West has a stunning area of rugged beauty that is home to popular attractions like the Shetani Lava flows and the Mzima Springs. Elephants, rhinos, hippos, lions, cheetahs, buffalos, elusive leopards, and a variety of plant and bird species are visible from the Poacher’s Lookout.

Tour Plan

DAY 1 NAIROBI TO OL PEJETA CONSERVANCY

A representative will meet you at the airport or at your hotel in Nairobi. You will board the 4x4 Safari Land Cruiser and proceed to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy following a cordial greeting and a briefing on your safari schedule. On your way to Sweetwaters, you will traverse the rich central highlands while taking in the breathtaking scenery.

You will make it to Ol Pejeta in time for lunch and check-in. After unwinding at the lodge or camp, you will go on a game drive in the park in the afternoon. With the largest rhino population, Ol Pejeta is a vast conservation area that also supports a variety of other wildlife. Getting to know the park will make you want to visit again.

During the Game Drive, engage in a search for both black and white Rhinos among other animals including elephants, lions and buffaloes. See the orphaned chimps and other creatures rescued from illegal trade at the Sweetwaters Sanctuary, the only one of its kind in Kenya.

In the evening, you will head back to the camp or lodge for dinner. For an additional fee, there is the exciting option of a nighttime game drive in the park. You will then spend the night at your camp or lodge.

Day 02 OL PEJETA CONSERVANCY TO LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK

Leave Ol Pejeta Conservancy for the well-known Lake Nakuru National Park after an early breakfast at the lodge. On the floor of the Great Rift Valley, the Park is home to the picturesque Lake Nakuru.

Get there just in time to have a hearty lunch and check in. You will do an afternoon game drive in the park following a brief break at the lodging. The greater and lesser flamingos that swarm the lake are among the more than 400 bird species documented in the park, famously the Bird Watcher's paradise. The park is also home to a variety of species, such as the endangered Rothschild giraffe and black and white rhinoceros.

After your return, you will have a delicious meal and spend the night at the lodge/camp.

Day 03 LAKE NAKURU TO MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

Before starting an exciting journey from Lake Nakuru to Masai Mara National Reserve, get up early for breakfast. The Mara is an amazing place with a wide variety of fauna, breathtaking scenery, a vast ecosystem, and an enlightening cultural heritage.

Stop briefly along the way to take in the breathtaking scenery and use the restroom. Get to Mara, check in, have a delicious lunch, and unwind. After that, you will go on a game drive in the afternoon.

The Mara extends a warm invitation for you to enjoy its breathtakingly untamed splendor. The Wildebeest Migration, one of the most amazing animal events in the world, takes place in Mara, which is home to all five of the Big Five wildlife species.

At dusk, you will return to the lodge/camp for dinner and spend the night.

Day 4 MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

With the option of a Balloon Safari available at an additional cost, take to the Mara skies early in the morning for a spectacular aerial perspective and enjoy the Mara in all its grandeur.
After breakfast in the bush, go on a full-day guided game drive through the Masai Mara. A well-known travel destination, the Mara offers beautiful, rolling landscapes teeming with a variety of wildlife.

Savor a picnic lunch by the Mara River's banks or amidst the softly expansive terrain of the Mara. In Mara, the world's largest yearly animal migration takes place. From the grasslands of the Serengeti to the Masai Mara, wildebeests travel across the overflowing Mara River, which is plagued with crocodiles and hippopotamuses, during the great wildebeest migration, occuring from July to October. Zebras and antelopes follow the Wildebeests as they set the pace, traversing and entering the Masai Mara's fertile plains.

The wildebeests must conquer this obstacle in order to enjoy the lush green pastures of the Mara. Across the river and on the opposite shore of the Mara River, however, they come across the lurking Big Cats of the Mara, who are ready to feast.

You will return to the lodge or camp at dusk for a warm meal, some relaxation, and a restful night's sleep.

Day 5 MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE TO LAKE NAIVASHA

Leave for the tranquil Lake Naivasha after an early breakfast. The tectonic split in the earth's crust created the rift valley, which is home to some of the world's most exquisite lakes and a stunning mix of harshness.

Make it to Naivasha in time for lunch and check-in. Take a boat trip on the lake in the afternoon. Pods of hippos and a variety of bird species live at Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake located on the Great Rift Valley floor.

After that, take a guided tour of the Animal Sanctuary Farm situated on Lake Naivasha, which is home to a variety of wildlife, including zebras and waterbucks. Head back to the lodging for dinner and spend the night.

Day 6 LAKE NAIVASHA TO AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK

After an early morning meal, go out on an exciting adventure from Lake Naivasha to Amboseli National Park. For a quick restroom break and a beautiful view of the Rift Valley, pause at the viewpoint. Get to your lodging in time to check in, unwind, and enjoy a lunch before going on a game drive in the afternoon.

At the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's tallest snow-capped peak, lies the Amboseli National Park. Look for four of the Big Five species located in the park as you explore it.  Enjoy the vast savannah plains of Amboseli and up-close encounters with the African Elephants that traverse the expansive landscape.

After an adventure in the park, head back to your lodging to freshen up and overnight stay.

Day 7 AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK

Have a lively breakfast before starting a full-day game drive in the park with a picnic lunch that has already been prepared. Among the other cat predators in the area, an early morning offers an opportunity to sight the elusive leopard.

Amboseli is renowned for its big-tusked elephants, the gentle giants of the wild. Additionally, Amboseli is home to more than 400 known bird species, which draws both animals and bird lovers. With 4 different ecosystems, Amboseli’s wildlife diversity is endless and you get to experience it all.

Have a picnic at one of Amboseli's designated picnic areas amidst the expansive grasslands teeming with wildlife. Return to your lodging to spend the night and have dinner.

Day 8 AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK TO TSAVO WEST NATIONAL PARK

Continue your journey to the red soils of Tsavo West National Park after leaving behind the vast expanse of Amboseli's savannah grasslands. The ferocious, man-eating lions of Tsavo with extremely light brown manes are a well-known attraction to Tsavo.

After checking into your lodging early, explore Tsavo West National Park for the remainder of the day. The Mzima Springs, which contribute to the park's stunning ruggedness and supply water for the free-roaming wildlife, have fifty million gallons of crystal-clear water spilling out from beneath dry lava rock.

Among the park's numerous wildlife species, get up close and personal with the red elephants, owing their name to the color of Tsavo’s red soil.

Return to your lodge or camp to freshen up, have dinner and a good night sleep after spending most of the day on an exciting excursion.

Day 9 TSAVO WEST NATIONAL PARK TO MTITO ANDEI TRAIN STATION

It is time to say goodbye after an exciting eight days exploring Kenya's top safari routes. Before leaving for your last visit to the Kenyan Coast's beautiful beaches, enjoy a leisurely breakfast.

The Mtito Andei train station will be the drop-off location. Train tickets and transfers from the train station at the coast can be organized at an additional fee.
