  Leopard at sunset, “Twister” radio chases, and the smoothest family safari imaginable — Antonio Safaris  – We travelled in February 2026 with Antonio Safaris for a 3-day Masai Mara safari plus 1 day at Lake Nakuru, staying at Sarova Mara Camp and Sarova Lion Hill Camp.… read more We were a mixed family group (young kids + grandparents) split across two Land Cruisers with drivers/guides Anthony and Joseph — and they were outstanding from start to finish.

First, the people: Anthony and Joseph are genuinely warm, happy, and incredibly knowledgeable. Every drive was packed with interesting facts, patient Q&A, and little extras like Swahili words for our son. They also had a brilliant way of making sure everyone felt looked after — constantly checking on the grandparents, offering stops when needed (including toilet breaks), and adjusting the pace so the trip felt smooth and stress-free.

The guiding skill was next level. We watched them track footprints in the dirt, spot tiny distant movement, do a lightning-fast binoculars check to confirm the animal and then calmly (or sometimes hilariously urgently) reposition to get us the best view. If you’ve ever wanted that “we’re in a wildlife documentary” feeling — this was it. They also always gave us as much or as little time as we wanted at each sighting, never rushing us.

Logistics were seamless. They know everyone, so checkpoints and moving around the parks felt effortless. They were also punctual to the minute, waiting outside for the earliest starts — including full-day safaris with picnic lunches — which meant we maximised game time, not admin time.

The Land Cruisers were excellent: clean, comfortable, large viewing windows, and a pop-up roof for standing. The driving felt safe and as smooth as possible (bumps are unavoidable — it’s a safari!) and they clearly knew the quickest and best routes between camps. Best touch: a cooler stocked with ice-cold water, soft drinks and beers, which was perfect after long drives.

Now the moments we’ll never forget. Anthony and Joseph worked tirelessly to help us see everything — not just the Big Five. More than once they’d hear something on the radio and suddenly we’d be racing across the savannah to a sighting — like a scene out of the movie Twister. Because of that constant coordination, we were first on site about 90% of the time for rare moments (lions eating/drinking, rhino groups, elephant mothers and babies), often getting a silent 10 minutes alone before 15+ other vehicles arrived.

We saw countless zebras, giraffes, elephants, rhinos, cheetahs, hippos and lions (including lions with their kills). And the highlight: the leopard. We thought it just wasn’t going to happen — but Anthony and Joseph were adamant. They kept working the radios right up to the final sunset moments of our last drive, and then a leopard in a tree. Absolute magic.

Finally, value. We did a lot of research before booking, and this was amazing value compared with other operators — and even when we chatted with other groups at the camps, we consistently felt our team went that step above. Also worth saying: no hidden upsells, no commission-style tourist stops — just a brilliant safari with clear, prompt communication by email before we arrived.

Book Antonio Safaris if: you’re travelling as a family of all ages, you’re a large group needing multiple vehicles, you’re a first-timer with a camera phone, or you’re a serious wildlife spotter/photographer who wants the best possible positioning, lighting and patience at sightings.

Robinson was a standout part of our journey. Warm, funny, and deeply knowledgeable, he made every game drive an adventure. He had this incredible ability to spot wildlife from what felt like miles away and knew exactly where to take us for the best views. He also never made us feel rushed!He also shared insights into animal behavior and Maasai culture, which made the whole experience even richer. We also picked up a few Swahili words along the way!

We saw the Big Five (yes, even a leopard!), plus cheetahs, hippos, giraffes, and more. Watching elephants wander past the golden savanna during sunset is something we’ll never forget. The sheer openness of the Mara, dotted with many animals, trees and endless skies feels unreal.

We found Antonio Safaris online and quickly worked out they were much better value than expensive options in the UK. Five star reviews on Trip Advisor and Safari Bookings reassured us whilst Anthony (another one in the office not our guide) was so quick to respond to our enquiry, put together a package to meet our needs and answer questions. After we booked, he even upgraded one of the lodges at no charge because he could within our budget!
Our guide Anthony was amazing, took care of everything, always offering helpful insights and suggestions, careful driver and his ability to spot animals we couldn’t even see at first was incredible!
The luxury tented camps and lodges were fabulous. Before booking I would have favoured lodges, but now having stayed in them, tented camps win hands down – listening to wildlife, hippos and hyenas at night was out of this world.
There aren’t enough superlatives to describe our amazing safari and we highly recommend Antonio Safaris enough! What a wonderful holiday!

  11 day safari Nairobi  – Just returned from a trip of a lifetime! Wow, what an incredible 11 days of safari! We took a chance on Antonio Safaris after reading such good reviews and it… read more did not disappoint! We visited 6 different parks each with its own character and stayed at some fabulous lodges and camps on a round trip starting and finishing in Nairobi. Our wonderful guide, Anthony, met us at the airport hotel with the comfortable 4-wheel drive safari truck with viewing roof and not only drove us between the camps but took us on safari adventures in each park. He was absolutely brilliant! He and his office team took care of everything throughout the trip with all the logistics, timings, park entrances, game drives, hotel accommodation and food. We really could just enjoy the 11 days with no worries at all. Anthony’s game knowledge and ability to spot the animals was also supreme. We took some fabulous pictures! We learnt and saw so much and he was a genuinely nice person who did everything to make it the best trip.
In 3 of the parks we had tented accommodation which was so much fun, we had electricity, a fully plumbed en-suite bathroom and even a water chiller but all under canvas – luxury camping in every sense. We went to bed listening to the cacophony of bush sounds including hyenas and hippos – absolutely magical! as were the striking starry skies with no light pollution.
In the Masai Mara we had such an immersive experience as our camp was 1.5 hours drive into the park and we saw giraffe and hyena walk past our table whilst having meals at camp. We had wonderful local Masai Warriors escort us back to our tents and keep us safe.
The game drives were so exciting – never knowing what you would see next. Highlights were close viewing of lions feasting on a carcass, elephant babies playing in the mud surrounded by their families, giraffe nibbling our safari truck ariel and several escorted bush walks where we were permitted.
The food was all included on the trip which ranged from à la carte 3 course options, full varied buffets and several packed lunches for longer game drives. It really was excellent quality – a perfect blend of international dishes and Kenyan specialties, often made from locally grown produce which resulted in the most wonderful flavours.
Every hotel/lodge/camp had a pool which meant we could enjoy a refreshing swim everyday with incredible views and often a passing animal or two.
We travelled as a family of 5 and came back feeling healthy, refreshed, exhilarated and in awe of the beauty we have seen. The brochures can’t do it justice! Highly recommend!
